Everyday Life

A variety of sushi dishes layed out on a black coffee table. It's lots of food with a beer and wine glass as well.

December 2rd was my and my partner's 6th anniversary so we celebrated by getting sushi delivery as we usually do! It was so delicious... I can't believe it's been 6 years since we started dating, and even wilder, 3 years since we've moved in together. I'm so fortunate to have them in my life.

Two beers on a coffee table, the left one is a vanilla porter from Mill Street Brewery, the other is Spirit Wolf brand Coffee Blond.

While grabbing some booze so I didn't have to worry about it over Christmas and new years, I grabbed a few tallboys of brews I've never tried before just to be a bit adventurous. The inspiration to jump into these two, strictly because the concepts seemed neat, was 100% fuelled by my friend William who got a beer advent calendar for christmas (might see more about that later? eye emoji).

The Vanilla Porter is actually from a brewery that I usually buy from, my classic go-to being their bottled Mill Street Organic. It was an interesting concept, the vanilla adding a flare of sweet to the simple brew taste. It wasn't a mindblowing combination but it was intriguing nonetheless. I almost wish the vanilla has been a tad sweeter just so the flavor would come across more. Overall I did finish the can but I won't be jumping the gun to grab it next time I'm at the liquor store.

The Coffee Blond was super interesting, as I do like coffee and I usually like blonder brews. This one missed the mark a bit though, as the coffee balance was a bit too off I think. Maybe it's because I usually don't drink just black coffee, but it was almost a bit too much in combination with the beer taste. It almost tasted a little... burnt? But again, my coffee tastes tend to be on the sweeter side so that could just be me needing to adjust my expectations. Overall, I wasn't able to finish the whole can as the flavor was a bit too much, but I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to try it because the concept was hella rad.

A photo taken on my phone of the Netflix blurb for the first inuyasha movie.

No idea why but I decided I wanted to rewatch all of the Inuyasha movies when I can't sleep. So far I've watched the first and second one, so I have two more to go. For some reason I have a distinct memory of watching #2 multiple times when I was younger, but have not seen any other ones lol. They're exactly what you would expect out of an early 2000s anime movie.

December means christmas! At least for my family and I. It was very uneventful as we couldn't visit anyone but overall still pleasant and relaxing. My mom got me some new shirts and a couple of other goodies. My partner's mom stocked me up on fun socks, small essentials, and snacks as she always does, a lovely tradition I always look forward to!!!

Video Games - What I Played

As per usual, Dead by Daylight is a staple. The game has been getting a lot of updates over the last few months, both in terms of functionality and visuals. I'm thinking in the next month or two I might write a piece about it since at this point I've put over 400 hours into it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

A new one on the docket was Bugsnax and I absolutely LOVED IT. It was included as the free PS Plus game for Playstation 5 until about January, but even then I was planning on buying it day one. This game is so adorable and weird and dark in the best ways possible. The puzzle mechanics and catalogue functionality were so satisfying that I ended up platinuming the whole thing. If you get the chance, PLEASE play this game, and also go in as blindly as you can. This one is going to stick with me for a while. Hell, I loved this game so much I ended up getting a commission from Ghost of my OC/sona Atlas with two of my favourite Bugsnax - a Flaming Cheepuff and a Noodler! Please go check out their twitter, their art is top notch.

My OC Atlas, with a bowl of ramen creature on his shoulder, and his hand up holding a cheeto butterfly creature.
The logo for tetris effect with various particle effects around it.

Because it (finally) went on sale for 50% off, I picked up Tetris Effect again and am loving replaying through the campaign. The soundtrack for it is top tier and is actually what I use when writing a lot of posts for this blog. They did an phenomenal job with creating a new tetris experience and I won't be getting tired of playing these levels anytime soon.

Cross Stitch

Another christmas gift I ended up doing (in record time) was a Ness keychain for my friend Lapis as a secret santa gift!! This was super fun to do and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Speaking of Lapis, you should check out their piece they wrote about on Mint's Blog: Friends Don't Let Friends Play Trails!

Got some new thread colours! Have another smaller, maybe keychain, idea I want to start. The design is very simple which I don't mind. Sometimes it's nice to have simple patterns that I can stitch while watching tv or doing other things.

We did a secret santa exchange at work this christmas and I decided to make a cross stitch keychain for my santee. It was really fun to do a larger, more oddly shaped keychain and I managed to get it done much faster than I was expecting! I'm a bit annoyed because I forgot to get a photo of the finished product before I packed up the gift but oh well! I'm happy with the progress shots I got.

Spicy & Echo Power Hour

It's actually just Spicy's Power Hour this month, as any and all photos I've taken of Echo recently have been either blurry as hell, or because he's mostly black, are just a void with no detail lol.

That's it for this month! If you want to time travel a bit, why not check out last month's post for November, or the Photo Journal Tag!
